MaterialWise began as an internal initiative of the Cradle to Cradle Products Innovation Institute to bolster quality assurance for material health assessments in the certification program. In the course of this process, the Institute saw clearly that they were not alone. Leading retailers, brands and manufacturers are eager for safer, healthier products. And they are all running into the same challenges with chemical data: expense, access, consistency, quality, scale. The Institute decided to develop MaterialWise as a broader industry initiative with diverse funders and partners. MaterialWise is now an independent project of the non-profit Healthy Building Network (HBN),
Today, MaterialWise is a value-chain collaboration driven by industry partners that include Google, Levis, Method, Nike, Steelcase, and Target. To drive policy, methodology, and quality we rely on our NGO partners including the Cradle to Cradle Products Innovation Institute, the Environmental Defense Fund, Northwest Green Chemistry, and ZDHC.
We welcome new partners. MaterialWise is a solution that supports and empowers industry solutions already in play. We are focused on providing a data service and input to support decision-making for safer products and guidance on policy. Join us to create the evidence base for your initiative.
Funders include C&A Foundation, Eric and Wendy Schmidt Innovation Fund, Google, Roy A Hunt Foundation, and Target.
The free MaterialWise screening tool was made possible by a unique collaboration between the Cradle to Cradle Products Innovation Institute, Fashion Positive, and Healthy Building Network with generous support from the H&M Foundation.
